I dont know if any of you have heard about this - but Creative Allies has been hosting a contest for the last month for poster designs for the New York Times Top Ten List of best shows(at least I think thats where the list came from). Anyhow I have three entered, and I would appreciate any of you voting - and it really does not have to be for me, just for any you like. Then again, if you did vote for me that would not suck either. There are some pretty cool design entered and the contest ends April 15th. I think I am done, but I might have another one left in me. I would post the prints here, but Im not so sure I can now that they are in an official contest. Here is the link if you wanna check it out.

There are a bunch of really neat images there. Can you vote for more than one? I like a bunch, but haven't picked a favorite yet ... I'm hoping I can vote more than once :-)

Skobud, I like your skull with the snowflake; I like that one better than the Warhol effect, mainly cuz I don't think they'd have used a Warhol-ish poster in '70, though I could be wrong. (Guess I'm a Psychedelic Art Purist, LOL. Not much into Pop Art.)

So those are the Top Ten Shows for the Epic Tour, eh? Huh. Where are the 60s? And nothing from 74? Anyway, this seems to be the list:

1. 5/8/77
2. 7/8/78
3. 8/27/72
4. 9/18/87
5. 2/13/70
6. 10/9/89
7. 8/13/75
8. 3/24/90
9. 4/29/71
10. 6/10/73

I like the Veneta one, too. The lettering is very "of the times," and that's an interestingly warped image of a ... what is it? A hat? Does that make it a skull cap? :-)

That one took on a life of its own Althea. Its a really kinda shitty little sketch of a syf I did freehand, scanned it in and placed it. I then was distorting just to see where it would go, and that was when my wife came in and said "that looks like a pill or frisbee or hat or something, I really like it but its super weird". SOLD. I stopped there. Generally when people start seeing very different things in any of my art I immediately stop. THat when I know the trippy-ness has taken hold and my work is done.

LOL, I thought of a frisbee, too. Actually it looks like a topi, which is a traditional Nepali hat ... I just read the "about" part of that design contest thing, and they say that (theoretically) elements of the design would be used in the "game environment," so I think we should all vote for your skullcap/trippy frisbee just to see how they'd turn that into a game!!! (Although I think all that's really going to happen is the contest entrants will get a "$100 credit to the Creative Allied store.")

Im not even sure of the prizes. I think its paid in some sort of gift suscription to the game or something, I dunno. All I know is that I want something, anything of mine to be offical - by that I mean the powers that be validating my work. I went throught this with GDM about 3 1/2 years ago with a pitch they really liked, and I made it through the door which is almost unheard of - but in the end it went no where. Ill just keep my fingers crossed, There are a lot of talented people out there.

Chalk one up for the 'steal-your-sheet of acid meets a vicodin' from me. How many hits are on that things?!

Nicely done man. I have really enjoyed your artwork and designs. I put up some of your fractal sleeves on my wall paper at least once a month for the visual pleasantry and as a reminder of what show to listen to. So thanks, and I hope you 'win'.

I like the spaceship/Warlocks (Orabitt) one as well until you have to look at dancing robears or whatever that crap is. How to mess up a simply good idea...........

Good luck again Skobud.

btw~ Is the one from jglenn121 the jglynn1.2 from round these parts? hmmmmm

Its 600 hits @ 200mcg, just like the orange and blue sunshine that crushed the crowd, band, and every last roadie that day :) Damn those Kesey's!

Thanks dude, really....I was wondering the exact same thing - is that jglynn? It looks to me like many of the entries are from students who don't really listen to GD. Of course, I could be totally wrong but some of the designs seem, well, a little odd.

There are so many talented people out there though that are educated in this unlike myself, I think it will take some luck for me to do well. Im self taught photoshop hack that likes to make trippy lookin shit. Many of these other guys are graphic design professionals. Anyhow, thanks again Craven.

Dude - There is no way to tell. I can either get smacked with inspiration and start a project and refuse to do anything else(including eating or sleeping) until its complete like a freaked out OCD nutjob - OR - Other times I fight to work out an idea and that can take days weeks and even months, and the truth is that most of my projects I dont post becasue I finish them and I think they need more work.

SO - it really just varies. If I have everything completely worked out in my head already I would say 2 or 3 hours. Starting from scratch with a vague idea - like Veneta for example - took me about 9 hours to get it just the way I wanted it. That warped 3d SYF was totally freehand though, so that definately takes longer.
